Scope and Content This item describes Charles Calder’s notebook for buildings in the county of West Lothian. In the main, it contains measured sketches used in the preparation of plans to illustrate the RCAHMS Inventory published in 1929. An index at the beginning provides a list of the buildings included: Ochiltree Castle (p1); Linlithgow Palace (3-74), Dalmeny Church (75); Blackness Castle (77, 93-103); Staneyhill Tower (79); Linlithgow Church (85-9) and Dovecot (91); Abercorn Church (85-105); South Queensferry Friary (p106-7). Other notes cover Philipston House (78), the font, tomb slabs, and communion cups at Abercorn (81-3, 105). As well as those taken to develop architectural plans, there are also sketches of architectural details, inscriptions and general and historical notes in some instances. Each of the items drawn up into a plan or written up into formal descriptions is annotated 'drawn' or ticked, respectively. Notes by GG, 3 Feb 2016
