Scope and Content Titled: 'The Roman Bridge' with descriptive caption: 'This bridge on the South Calder, about a quarter of a mile from the farm of Bothwellhaugh. It consists of a single arch of 20 feet span. It is undoubtedly of great antiquity, and derives its name from its being supposed to have been built by the Romans. From the eastern extremity of this bridge, the great western Roman road, or Watling Street, can still be traced for about a mile in the direction of Motherwell'.
