Scope and Content Titled: 'Dalzell House' with descriptive caption: 'Dalzell House, the residence of John G. C. Hamilton, Esq., is picturesquely situated on a burn of the same name, in the parish of Dalziel...Originally this house consisted of an old tower or peel-house, supposed to have been built in the reign of James II...In 1649 Mr Hamilton of Boggs, brother of Orbistoune, two years after the Dalzell estate came into his possession, built a large mansion close to the old tower. A few years ago considerable additions were made to these buildings, from designs by Mr Billings, and the whole, including the peel tower, now forms one of the most picturesque country seats in Scotland'.
