Scope and Content Charles Laing and Son. Interior. Casting Process. Making up the mould. Both parts of the mould have been 'rammed up', 'gate' for the 'runner' system cut, and patterns withdrawn. The 'cope' or upper part of the mould is 'pressed' onto the 'drag' or lower part and the pouring holes are dusted with plumbago (graphite powder) to ensure that the molten iron flows freely into the mould from the crucible. The cope is then taken off and the mould checked and tidied up. Andrew cleans up the runner system. Sound: sound Colour: colour Running Time: 3.11 mins
