Scope and Content Charles Laing and Son. Interior. Casting Process. Making up the mould. Both parts of the mould (cope and drag) have been 'rammed up' and Andrew has cut the 'gate' for the 'runner' system. He now swabs the edges of the patterns to help bind the edges of the lower part of the mould, or drag, together to enable clean withdrawal of the patterns. The indentations left by the patterns will fill with molten iron during the casting process. He is now 'rapping' the patterns in the lower part (drag) of the mould. This will help loosen the patterns. The rapping cannot be too vigorous or it will cause a mis-match between the upper (cope) and lower(drag) parts of the mould. Andrew now removes the patterns very carefully one by one. Sound: sound Colour: colour Running Time: 2.20 mins
