Scope and Content Charles Laing and Son. Interior. Casting Process. Making up the mould. Firming the top part (cope) of the mould and removing excess green sand. The 'ramming' should be neither too light nor too hard as this will affect the final casting. The top half of the mould is covered with green sand (with aditional ingredients to aid with the quality of the casting). The bottom half of the mould (drag) has already been prepared.
