Scope and Content Unstan chambered cairn, Orkney This is a stalled cairn built on a promontory on the south shore of the Loch of Stenness. The cairn is almost circular in plan. The chamber at Unstan is divided into five burial compartments by these upright slabs. The outer ends of the slabs are set into the side walls. The chamber also has a side cell. When excavated in the 19th century, sherds of at least 35 bowls were found. They were named Unstan-ware and similar sherds have been found at other sites. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
