Scope and Content This is a view of a decorative steel gateway on Slater's Steps between Morgan Court, 59-61 Holyrood Road (seen here behind the gate), and Parkgate, 63-67 Holyrood Road, Edinburgh. This area has been completely redeveloped during the early 21st century with the building of the Scottish Parliament at the eastern end of Holyrood Road and Canongate, and subsequent associated infilling of gap sites created following demolition of various breweries along Holyrood Road. This gateway encloses access from Holyrood Road to Slater's Steps, a narrow close running between two flatted developments built in 1998. It is designed in steel with simple circular detailing to the railings and the top of the gate. Slater's Steps is a newly named close though it marks the continuation of Slater's Court, which is now enclosed within the Huntly House Museum on Canongate, and which was named after Andrew Slater, a slater who had premises in this area.
