Scope and Content Aerial view of Corstorphine Old Parish Church, Corstorphine, Edinburgh The village of Corstorphine, directly to the west of Edinburgh, was originally a medieval settlement around the church and castle (now long gone). In the 19th century a 'new' village developed to the north, lining the main route from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Corstorphine Old Parish Church, with its stone roof and irregular roofline, stands within its ancient churchyard at the heart of the old village. The line of Victorian tenements along St John's Road (top left) forms part of the 19th-century new village. The church, which began in 1404 as a modest chapel built by Sir Adam Forrester, Lord Provost of Edinburgh in 1376, was later enlarged to incorporate the original chapel. It was again extended in the 17th century, and altered in 1828 by William Burn. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
