Unidentified photographs and other material donated by Ian Donnachie March 2014

551 474/1/2/2

Description Unidentified photographs and other material donated by Ian Donnachie March 2014

Collection Ian L Donnachie

Catalogue Number 551 474/1/2/2

Category All Other

Scope and Content Photographs and other material Some photos relate to the book: The Industrial Archaeology in the British Isles by John Butt and Ian Donnachie (1979), on which Donnachie was a research associate. Others are related to Donnchie’s own book Industrial Archaeology of Galloway (1971). Where this is apparent, they have already been catalogued in sub-group 474/1/1 of the Ian Donnachie Collection on Oracle. Donnachie was also a research associate on John Butt’s The Industrial Archaeology of Scotland (1967), and although some material may relate to this book, it has not been labelled as so by Donnachie. The same can be said of photographs from Donnachie’s book Roads and Canals 1700-1900. It would be necessary to get hold of the book (it is not in the RCAHMS collection but is available to view at the Scottish National Library) to see if any of the other photographs (other than the six catalogued in Batch 474/1/1/7) relate to this book. A list of Donnachie’s publications since 1979 can be found at http://oro.open.ac.uk/view/person/id3.html but others were published before this. MS 7336/1 • ‘Industrial Archaeology by J. Butt and I. Donnachie, Plates etc.’ Selection of photographs of mining, construction, brickworks, Wa`uk Mills. The book referred to is The Industrial Archaeology in the British Isles (1979). All the contents of this folder have been kept together in case the negatives in any way respond to the photographs and have been transferred to a grey archival folder. o Photos of abbeys, churches, stately homes, country houses. Mini folder of photos of textiles mills. • 2 exercise books and some letters and other material relating to a Mr. James Reid. • A large amount of negatives, not necessarily the ones for the photographs that have been donated. Where negatives and photographs correspond, they have been left together. Others may correspond but this will require manually sorting through them.
