Scope and Content The A C Wolffe collection comprises material derived from Wolffe's early architectural career and his collaborations with various religious and heritage societies and committees. The collection includes documentation, correspondence, drawings, maps and photographs.
Archive History The A C Wolffe Collection was gifted to RCAHMS in 2012 by the owner of the collection, A C Wolffe.
System of Arrangement The collection is arranged in a heirarchy starting with material derived from Wolffe's duration at Edinburgh College of Art, proceeding to his early career through to aspects of his later career and his collaborations with various religious and heritage societies and committees.

Administrative History Antony Curtis Wolffe (1920-2016) was born in Germany in 1920 and moved to Britain in 1937. In 1938 he was awarded the Andrew Grant Scholarship to study for a Diploma in Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art. Following this initial qualification, he undertook further study for a Diploma in Town and Country Planning, leaving ECA in 1944. After his graduation, Wolffe remained in Scotland and had a long and successful career as a practising architect. He opened his office in Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Dumfries and Galloway in 1952 and has been based there ever since. Wolffe was awarded an MBE in 1975 and only retired in 2012, aged 92. His student years included a period of internment as an enemy alien. Antony was interned initially at Donaldson’s Hospital in Edinburgh which became a Prisoner Of War Camp during WW2. From there Antony was then sent on to Huyton internment camp outside of Liverpool before sailing to the Isle of Man and eventually on to Southern Quebec, Canada. Anthony Curtis Wolffe started his architectural career at Edinburgh University's College of Art. Following graduation he worked on various projects based in Edinburgh. Increasing work commitments in Dumfries and Galloway led Wolffe to relocate and set up his own practice in Gatehouse-of-Fleet in the Stewarty of Kirkcudbright. The A C Wolffe collection comprises material primarily from Wolffe's early architectural career. The collection additionally contains documentation relating to the various religious and heritage societies and committees that Wolffe was a member of. Work relating to his later career and specifically in Dumfries and Galloway is held for RCAHMS under charge and superindendance at Dumfries Archive Centre.
