Scope and Content This 54-page document sets out the principles by which the National Trust for Scotland will refurbish the manse on Hirta, St Kilda. After a general introduction, the development of the building is explored chronologically, followed by a more in-depth examination of the key historical phases. The significance of the manse is set out thematically and chronologically. The vision for the building, within the context of the Trust's vision for the property as a whole, as stated in the 2003 Management Plan for St Kilda, is detailed. A plan indicating the proposals for alterations to the building provides a visual aid to the heritage impact assessment provided. two appendices add factual details on the condition of the manse in 1957, and information on constructional details for each building phase and how those features changed over time.
