Description SIMPSON AND BROWN COLLECTION PHOTOGRAPHS

Date 1960 to 1994

Collection Records of Simpson and Brown, architects, Edinburgh, Scotland

Catalogue Number 551 244/1

Category All Other

Scope and Content Office photographic files showing buildings on which this firm of conservation architects have worked across Scotland and England. Comprising preliminary surveys, progress photographs, and record photographs including Rosslyn Castle 1983; St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh 1985; and Blairadam 1984.

Archive History Deposited by Simpson and Brown as 11 boxes of office photographic files. Albums have been rehoused into archival pockets and boxfiles. Album catalogue numbering taken from labels on original albums in accession (1-175) within which run there were several gaps, resulting in the incomplete numerical run. Album 104 (Magnet, Leith) and album 112 (31 Warrender Park Terrace) were present but contained no photographs in Jan 2023. Photographs from album 112 may have been erroneously added to album 95 (also Magnet, Leith) by volunteer during original rehousing. Scans of labels from these 2 albums have been taken and added to the collection. There have previously been catalogue entries made for batches from album 151, however there was no album 151 present in Jan 2023. Entries have been retained, but photographs are missing or misfiled.

Access Conditions Open, but note that access may be subject to conservation requirements. Please contact the archive to confirm access in advance of a visit.
