Scope and Content Originally known as Kamesburgh, Port Bannatyne grew up as a fishing village to the north-west of the main town of Rothesay. However, during the 19th century, when Rothesay's popularity as a tourist destination and a pleasant place to live by the seaside was at its peak, the town stretched out to join up the coastal strip between Port Bannatyne in the north-west and Ascog in the south-east. This group of terraced houses at 59-69 Marine Road are examples of typical cottages which were built when this was a small fishing village. Overlooking the quay and modern-day marina, these two-storeyed stone-built properties remain relatively unaltered with many retaining their original sash and case windows. Many have been extended into the attics, mostly with traditional-style canted Scotch dormers.
