Scope and Content A collection of photographs and research notes relating to doocots. It consists of: 12 albums of photographs; 11 folders of notes, correspondence and photographs; 3 boxes of slides: 35mm slides, glass slides, and lantern slides; 11 envelopes of negatives.
Archive History As well as Peterkin’s own photographs and notes, the Collection contains material he obtained from other people who took an interest in Scottish doocots, most noticeably, John Gladstone, Andrew Lumgair and A Niven Robertson. Peterkin states in the acknowledgements of his book, Scottish Dovecotes, that he ‘inherited’ Niven Robertson’s papers and photographs, and was given ‘all the information’ collected by J Gladstone and Ian G Lindsay’
System of Arrangement The albums, folders and boxes of slides are in boxes as they were received: Box 171: Albums PA 229/11-19 Box 172: Albums PA 229/1-10 Box 173: Boxes of Slides Box 174: Folders PA 229/20 – 23; 11 envelopes of negatives; plastic ring folder from which photographs have been largely removed leaving a few scattered photographs, mostly of doocots; photograph of the Windmill Doocot, Gordonstoun.
