Scope and Content A collection of colour photographic prints of early medieval sculpture, predominantly Pictish symbol stones.

Archive History Created in the course of his research, the collection was donated to RCAHMS by Mack, and accessioned as Acc No 1989/534. Photographs of the Inverewe stone were donated in 1994.

Access Conditions Open, but note that access may be subject to conservation requirements. Please contact the archive to confirm access in advance of a visit.

Administrative History Alastair Lindsay Mack, teacher, author and independent researcher (d.2016). An authority on early medieval sculpture, and in particular that of the Picts, Mack published a succession of guides and studies on the subject, including: 'Field Guide to the Pictish Symbol Stones' (1997); 'The Association of Pictish Symbol Stones with Ecclesiastical, Burial and Memorial Areas' (1998); 'Symbols and Pictures: The Pictish Legacy in Stone' (2007).
