Scope and Content The collection comprises albums of photographs of the Northern and Western Highlands and Islands. Subjects include scenery and buildings, activities such as peat cutting, tweed manufacture, and sheep dipping, and transport, including ferries, ponies, traps and carts, and a shot of a De Haviland on the airstrip at Sollas.
Archive History The collection was donated to RCAHMS in 2006.

Administrative History Violet Banks (1896-1985) was an Edinburgh-based commercial photographer and artist. In the 1920s and 1930s she travelled through much of the Highlands and Islands, documenting their life and scenery.
