Scope and Content From 7 Maitland Street. Sent Petrie proofs of article and lithograph illustrations and asks whether any alterations are required (PSAS 2, 56-62). Smith added a drawing of the restored stone urn. 4. From 7 Maitland Street, 26 April 1856. Promises to send Petrie a copy of the PSAS volume with his paper when it appears and offers extra offprints. Refers to his own interest in animal and human bones and hopes to see the 'skull of some small animal' to which Petrie referred. 5. 31 December 1867, from 7 Maitland Street. Thanks Petrie for 'the very fine specimen of one of your most ancient Orkney families' that he sent and will be pleased to receive more bones. from Mr Farrer also received. Requests that Farrer should retain any animal remains and offers identifications of those already received [?from Holm of Papa Westray North cairn]. Encourages Petrie to submit communication.
