Scope and Content Rothesay's expansion during the 19th century saw a rise in the number of tenement properties being erected in the town, as well as many large detached villas for wealthier residents and visitors. Originally named 'Eaglesham', this large two-storeyed, four-bayed property was built as a private house in the mid-19th century, but was converted to offices for the local authority in the early 20th century. Whilst the interior has been altered to suit office use, the exterior remains intact. The projecting gabled entrance porch is off-set to the left of the central gabled bay. Each gable is topped with a fleur-de-lys stone finial, and there are blank shields or panels within the apex of each gable to the front elevation. The original fenestration remains, with varying combinations of sash and case windows, including the ground floor tripartite bay window in the right hand gabled bay. The stonework is of cherry-cocked rubble sandstone. This is a prominent style throughout Rothesay, where sets of smaller stones are placed between larger blocks across the horizontal bands of stonework.
