Scope and Content Fort at Barochan Hill, Renfrewshire This Roman fort is at Barochan Hill. The ground it is built on is now a mixture of pasture and scrubland. Little of the defences remain at ground level, though traces of the rampart are still evident. This is an aerial view of the site. The fort can be seen as a rectangular cropmark to the left of the trees in the middle of the image. There were gateways in the E and W sides. The site has been excavated several times. The location of two of the internal buildings was discovered, suggesting that the fort faced W. Evidence for tile making was also found along with ovens and pot sherds.
