Administrative History The building was designed to provide four seperate organisations with facilities for scientific study, research and teaching in the fields of human reporoduction, population control, fertility and hormones. The users are the University of Edinburgh Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the Medical Research Council Reproductive Biology Unit and the National Health Service. The Ford Foundation gave $500,000 towards the capital and equipment cost, which was apportioned between the user organisations. The University managed the project in accordance with the procedures, funding and standards of the University Grant Committee. Each of the users occupies a seperate floor, with shared accommodation such as the lecture room and common room on the first floor, the library on the fourth floor and the animal accommodation on the ground floor. Small animals are held for experimental purposes in relevant study and research. The building is directly linked by a bridge to the Simpson Memorial Maternity Pavillion and is now part of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The contract was completed in 1979.
