Administrative History The building conforms to the rules which were generally applied to new building on Prices Street during the 1960s and 1970s which provided for a pedestrian walkway at first-floor level. This to some extent determined the design of the front, where a pedestrian walkway could be incorporated if the need arose. The client’s brief for the original building called for 3,000 foot run of counter space in the sales area, which is arranged on three lower floors, above which are stock-rooms and staff accommodation, including a roof garden. The basement and ground floors of the original stores were later extended northwards, below the level of Rose Street Lane to the rear. Above this extension there is a further sales area and a loading bay at the level of the lane. The top two floors of the extension are for stock and additional plant. The original building was completed in 1968 and the extension in 1978. Awarded the Scottish Gas Energy Award 1982. Job Nos. 093, 337 & 335.
