Scope and Content Photographic prints by Thomas Hannan. Many of the views were prepared for his publication 'Famous Scottish houses: the Lowlands', 1928 and include Minto House, Borders; Wemyss Castle, Fife; Winton House, East Lothian and Inch House. Other illustrations were prepared for 'To Mark the Fleeting Hour', an unsourced article, and 'Gruyeres and its Chateau'. A collection of negatives relating to Amisfield Cottage, Musselburgh, East Lothian, the home of Rev. Thomas Hannan, architectural writer and photographer. A collection of material relating to the Rev Thomas Hannan, including photographs, manuscripts, correspondence and newspaper cuttings.
Archive History Gifted to RCAHMS by Dr Nigel Malcolm-Smith, grandson of Rev. Hannan, and accessioned as Acc No 1997/11, Acc No 2001/53 and Acc No 2014/168. Also, Acc No 1998/57, purchased from Adam Books.

Administrative History Reverend Thomas Hannan, architectural writer and photographer (born 13 November 1860). Hannan graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1886. He served as curate of St Paul's Episcopal Church, York Place, Edinburgh, 1887-90, becoming Senior Curate, 1890-1. In 1891 he became rector of St Peter's Church, Musselburgh. Author of books and articles including 'The beautiful isle of Mull with Iona and the isle of saints' (1926), 'Famous Scottish houses: the Lowlands' (1928), 'Castle Wemyss, Renfrewshire' (1929), and 'Ravelston House: interesting residence at Blackhall' (1937).
