Scope and Content The collection comprises photographs and plans from excavations and surveys in Scotland by Professor Piggott, including Castle Law, Glencorse, 1948-9, Cairnpapple Hill henge and cairns, 1948, Torwoodlee broch, 1950, Corrimony chambered cairn, 1952, and Croft Moraig stone circle, 1965. Also included is material from investigations by C M 'Peggy' Piggott at Dunan Nighean, 1951, and Milton Loch, 1953. The other major component is a collection of 128 boxes of articles and offprints on archaeological subjects.
Archive History The photographs and drawings were donated to RCAHMS following Piggott's retiral in 1975. The collection of offprints was donated by Professor Coles in 2000.

Access Conditions There are no restrictions upon access.
Administrative History Between 1946 and 1975 Stuart Piggott (1910-96) held the chair of Abercromby Professor of Prehistoric Archaeology at the University of Edinburgh.
