Scope and Content A collection of archaeological drawings comprising about 600 original survey drawings and about 100 notebooks on stone circles, standing stones and alignments throughout Scotland, England, Wales and France, 1938-78. The collection includes copies of Thom's publications, many annotated by the author.

Archive History Donated to RCAHMS by Dr Archibald Thom.

System of Arrangement The collection is divided into notebooks and survey drawings, the latter arranged by country.

Access Conditions There are no restrictions upon access.

Administrative History An engineer by profession, Professor Alexander Thom's interest in prehistoric megalithic sites developed as a hobby, but became a second career, resulting in a substantial body of survey material and over 120 publications.
