Scope and Content The collection comprises excavation and publication drawings, photographs and negatives, colour slides, notebooks, correspondence, registers and miscellaneous items from all NOSAS projects, including: Isbister chambered cairn; Liddel burnt mound; and Bu broch. The collection includes material from some later work by John Hedges.

Administrative History Founded by John Hedges in 1976-7, with funding from Historic Buildings and Monuments/Scottish Development Department, NOSAS was created to undertake long-term rescue excavations, to promote archaeological fieldwork and research, and to deal with any archaeological emergency in the north of Scotland, Orkney and Shetland. NOSAS was disbanded in 1982.
