The correspondence reflects the extensive research undertaken by Craw for his publications.

Related Material Other material by Craw is included in the RCAHMS Collection. Survey drawings of monuments in Berwickshire by Craw were used by the Royal Commission for the revised Inventory in 1915.
Administrative History James Hewat Craw (1880-1933) possessed wide and varied interests in archaeology and natural history. He contributed numerous articles on historical and antiquarian subjects to the Journal of the Berwickshire Naturalists' Club of which he was a leading member, and to the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, of which he was secretary, particularly on subjects in the Border counties, Argyll and Orkney. He was active in both survey and excavation of archaeological sites, most notably at Dunadd (1929-30), Nether Largie (1930) and Broch of Gurness (1929-33), where he was employed by the Ministry of Works.
