Scope and Content A collection of glass lantern slides of buildings, places, people and street scenes, mostly in and around Kolkata, c.1912-14. Subjects include Lal Dighi (formerly Dalhouse Square) illuminations and ceremonial for the 1912 royal visit, sweet sellers and the festival of Muharram on the Maidan, a Jain Temple, sadhus, temples and shrines, boats on the Hooghly River, bathers near the Chandpal Ghat, the Babu Ghat, Chotulal Ghat, the Ordnance Building, Post Office and Telegraph Office, the Bengal Club, St Olaf's Church, Serampore, street hairdressers, bullock carts, Tipu Sultan Mosque, and Naendra Pokhari temple and Jagganath Temple, Puri, Orissa.
Archive History No formal accession record for this collection or information on its provenance has been identified so far. Although catalogued in 2010, it is probable that the material had been received much earlier, and possibly prior to the transfer of RCAHMS to John Sinclair House in 1992.
System of Arrangement The collection is housed in four boxes, arranged by catalogue number.
