Scope and Content The collection of material relating to Scottish sites comprises manuscripts, aerial and ground photographs, excavation plans, sections and maps. The Collection also includes teaching and research slides.
Archive History The collection of his Scottish material was passed to RCAHMS by the executors of Professor Jones in January 2002.
System of Arrangement The collection has been only partly catalogued, although a handlist is available for the remainder of the material.

Administrative History Professor GDB Jones (4 April 1936-16 July 1999) held the chair of Archaeology at the University of Manchester, specialising in the archaeology of the Roman Empire. He was well-known throughout the archaeological world, undertaking excavations on sites from Scotland to Italy to Libya. His Scottish surveys concentrated on the Moray Firth and Solway Firth areas.
