Administrative History George Heriot's Trust is a charity responsible for the governance of George Heriot's School, Edinburgh. The school was founded in 1628 upon a bequest of £25,000 Scots left by the goldsmith, George Heriot, for the care of poor, fatherless, children in Edinburgh. In the eighteenth century the Governors purchased the Barony of Broughton, which provided the school with an additional source of revenue from leases and development.
