Scope and Content A collection of manuscripts, photographs and drawings relating compiled during the archaeological researches of Ludovic McLellan Mann, mostly dating to between 1899 and 1955.
Archive History The collection was left to Mr George Applebey by L M Mann on his death in 1955, and subsequently to RCAHMS by the Applebey family in 1991.
System of Arrangement The collection retains its original arrangement by numbered envelopes, each relating to a site of subject of research.
Related Material Material relating to Cochno and other sites investigated by Mann also appears in the J Harrison Maxwell Collection.
Administrative History Ludovic McLellan Mann (1866-1955) was by profession an insurance broker, resident in Glasgow and Bridge of Weir. Mann developed a great interest in archaeology, particularly that of the prehistory of Glasgow and the west of Scotland. In later years he became increasingly interested in prehistoric astronomy and measurement.
