Administrative History Edward Taylor, born 1937, began his education in architecture in 1958 at the Dundee College of Art School of Architecture where he was awarded a travel grant for best student in his final year. Following completion of his education, he joined the Dundee firm of Baxter, Clark & Paul and contributed to the firm's competition design for the Livingston New Town Development Corporation offices. He left the firm in 1964 after being awarded a travel scholarship to the United States where he worked as an assistant in the office of Louis Kahn, architect, in Philadelphia. Taylor returned to Scotland in 1966, joining the Architecture Research Unit of the University of Edinburgh as a project archivist where he remained for 6 years. Upon leaving this post, Taylor returned to university and studied for an MPhil in Urban Design and Regional Planning, also at the University of Edinburgh. In 1974, he briefly took up a post with Wheeler and Sproson before being elected development manager in the Scottish Tourist Board. Whilst working with the Scottish Tourist Board, Taylor worked as a project leader on the Scottish Tourism and Recreation Planning Studies Team and later with the Regional Council of Scotland in 1985. Taylor founded his own independent practice, Edward Taylor Architect & Planning Consultant, in 1985 which continued until his retirement in 2009.
