Description SKETCH BOOK 16 : RCAHMS Unidentified Scrapbook Large brown hard-backed album with green and gold-tooled leather trim (partly missing on the spine). The 66 pages are used for architectural prints and drawings, many on tracing paper and several including wash and colour. The subjects of the prints are famous public buildings, starting in the Low Countries then turning to Britain, the Scottish buildings being mainly towards the end. Most of the tracing paper drawings look like the work of several professional architects in various countries. This may have been the album of an antiquarian collector who was also interested in modern monuments, probably compiled in the 1840s; the character changes towards the end of the book, suggesting a different compiler later, perhaps a descendant using his collection and adding to it. Pencil title St Salvators St Andrews.
