Scope and Content Stone circle at Moss Farm, Machrie, Arran, North Ayrshire The area about the abandoned steading at Moss Farm contains one of the most impressive concentrations of prehistoric monuments anywhere in Scotland. This includes chambered cairns, stone circles, standing stones hut circles and field systems. This is a view of the stone circle. It originally consisted of seven or eight stones. Three of these are still standing up to 5.5 metres high. This makes them some of the tallest standing stones in Scotland. The site was excavated in 1861 and two cists were discovered. One of these had a cremation and a Food Vessel and the other a crouched inhumation. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
