Scope and Content Aerial view from west of Crinan Canal at Dunardry The Crinan Canal was built in 1794-1801 to join Loch Gilp and Loch Crinan and is still operational. Though only 14.48km long, its construction was difficult because the ground was either too soft or too rocky. This view shows the group of five locks and four basins at Dunardry, where there is a hand-operated roller cantilever bridge which was installed in 1900. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
