Scope and Content Cup-marked rocks at Achnabreck, Argyll and Bute There are three sets of cup-marked stones at Achnabreck farm inside two fenced enclosures about 140 m apart. They are covered in complex cup-marks, rings and grooves. This is a view of one of the rocks densely carved with cup-and-ring marks joined together by grooves. The rings are less regular on this rock and there can be more than one cup within a set of rings. A number of uses for such markings have been suggested, including maps, calendars, astronomical or even that they were done as acts of penance. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
