Description View of fort vitrifaction.

Date 1965

Catalogue Number AG 10111 CS

Category Photographs and Off-line Digital Images

Copies SC 337312

Scope and Content Fort at Carradale Point, Kintyre, Argyll and Bute The fort is built on the highest part of a small tidal island and can only be reached at low tide. As an additional defence many of the gullies leading up the fort have been blocked by stone walls. This is a view of the fort showing a section of the vitrified wall. The vitrification is more concentrated on the E side of the remains where there may have been a lot of timber. The burning was probably either an accident or done during an attack.
