Scope and Content Hut circle at Cul a'Bhaile, Isle of Jura, Argyll This hut circle is at Cul a'Bhaile on Jura. It is surrounded by a stone-walled enclosure measuring 78 m by 65 m. The hut had been rebuilt several times and excavation has shown a possible chronology for the site. This plan shows the layout. In its earliest form there was a stone foundation capped with turf and with a ring of stake-holes for a wattle screen and post-holes for the roof supports. In later stages, the post were replaced and the walls rebuilt. A number of flint and stone tools were found during the excavation. There was also a paved area outside the entrance. Early plough marks were found underneath the walls of the hut indicating an earlier use of the agriculture in the area. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
