Scope and Content Aerial view of farmsteading at Kilchiaran Farm, Islay, Argyll and Bute Kilchiaran is situated on the west of the Rhinns peninsula of Islay. This distinctive semicircular farmstead was built c.1830, after a new farm was established here to be run by a tenant farmer from Ayrshire. This aerial view shows the layout of the steading. The range on the right contains a cart-shed (top), barn and byre. An extension on the barn contains a threshing mill, which was originally powered by a waterwheel on the right (east) wall. On the other side of the courtyard is a stable (top) and a milking parlour (bottom). To the left of this lies a semicircular cattle-court which is divided into three sections and is enclosed by open sheds. A Dutch barn has been added next to the stable.
