Scope and Content Temporary camp at Balmakewan, Aberdeenshire This Roman temporary camp stands NW of Balmakewan House, near the confluence of the River North Esk and the Luther Water. Part of the camp, including the N angle, can still be seen on the ground. This is an aerial view of the site. The roughly trapezoidal camp can be seen as a cropmark in the centre of the image. Three entrances have been located, one of which, in the centre of the NE side, is protected by a titulus. The may have been used during the Severan campaigns. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
