In store at Aberdeen University Anthropological Museum (Accession no. AUAM 576-7) there is a paddle-blade which was found in a 'lake-dwelling' in Loch Kinord. This may refer to the Castle (NO49NW 16) or the crannog (NO49NW 17).

In store at Aberdeen University Anthropological Museum (under accession number AUAM 576-2) there is a paddle-blade which was found in a 'lake-dwelling' in Loch Kinord. This loch is situated in moorland to the N of the Dee valley at an altitude of about 165m OD; a castle (NO49NW 16) is recorded on an island at NO 4397 9964 and a crannog (NO49NW 17) at NO 4433 9952.
The artifact is in good condition and only slightly split. It measures just over 0.52m in length, of which the near-rectangular section of the blade accounts for 0.22m and the concave shoulders for a further 0.24m. The blade measures about 12mm in thickness and the dorsal surface is very slightly rounded, while the ventral surface is flat and measures up to 0.2m in breadth. The handle is slightly oval in section and measures about 20mm in diameter; it has broken away at a point where a slight tongue of wood protrudes (possibly as part of a socket joint), and about 50mm lower down the handle there is a slight groove of undetermined function.
