Formerly LIN 523.

'Aberdeen Canal (Remains of)' is noted at Woodland's Wood (NJ 8440 1528 to 8570 1530) on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map.

OS 6-inch map, Aberdeenshire, sheet lxv NE (1901).

Between NJ 8500 1565 (OS point 'E') and NJ 8508 1564 (OS point 'F') the canal bottom is marshy and overgrown with vegetation and trees along most of its length.

Between NJ 8512 1562 (OS point 'G') and NJ 8572 1530 (OS point 'H') the canal is overgrown with vegetation, but where it passes through a gully is well preserved.

Information from OS (ESC) 25 October 1961.

The contour-following line of the canal roughly follows the railway across the SW corner of this map sheet. Substantial earthworks survive in places, notably in Woodland's Wood (NJ 844 152 to 857 152).

A Graham 1969.

The line of the canal across the SW corner of this map sheet appears to have followed a sinuous course along a contour between 50 and 55m OD.

Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 28 October 1994.

The canal was overlain by the North of Scotland Railway, opened in 1854 before the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Aberdeenshire 1869, sheet lxv) was surveyed. The route can be traced on the line of the railway heading NW then W through open countryside.

Information from RCAHMS (MD) 2 May 2002.

There is no change to the existing record.

Information from RCAHMS (JRS), 16 October 2003.
