Pillbox behind garden wall of no. 216 Arnlee Lodge, on N side of N Deeside Rd by Bairns Rd; measures about 15 x 8 ft.

Visited by Mr J Guy, 18 July 1992.

NMRS, MS/712/8; NMRS MS 810/1, 50

This pillbox is situated on the N side of the A93 public road, in the SE corner of the garden of Arnlee Lodge. Rectangular on plan, it measures 4.9m from NNW to SSE by 2.95m transversely over walls some 0.45m in thickness. Whereas the walls are constructed of roughly-dressed granite blocks, the roof and floor are made of concrete. The entrance is at the NNW end of the ENE wall, where there are also the remains of an external blast wall. In addition to the entrance, the ENE wall contains two loopholes set close together towards its SSE end, and there may have been a third in the ENE face of the blast wall. This would mirror the arrangement of three loopholes in the WSW wall, where two are set close together towards the NNW end, and one towards the SSE end. The NNW and SSE walls are pierced by single loopholes.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS, ATW), 24 February 1997.
