Archaeology Notes

NX95NE 24 c. 97 59

Possibly on map sheet NX96SE.

A 'Druidical temple', similar to that described on NX95NE 23, stood in Kirkbean parish (Kirkbean: NX 97 59) until about 1790 when the stones were cleared away in order to build a farmhouse on the site. (cf NX95NW 6)

OSA 1794; G Chalmers 1824.

There is no trace of this 'Druidical circle', and no knowledge of its probable site, for which a careful search was made during the Ordnance Survey in 1893.

S Arnott 1895.
