A castle, said to have been that of the Bishops of Galloway, stood on Castle Hill, at the E end of Whithorn. Its site has long been under cultivation. Truckell mentions "the Bishops castle of Balnespik at the church of Candida Casa" (ie, Whithorn Priory - NX44SW 5, which is c.400m W of this site).
