Accessing Scotland's Past Project

Leitholm Church was built in 1835; prior to this date, the congregation had been using the ballroom of the village's Plough Inn.

The church was built of stone from the nearby Swinton Quarry. Originally a plain rectangular structure, a vestry and entrance hall were added in 1874, and a belfry was built two years later. Within the church, iron columns support the gallery that was built in 1877.

Leitholm church was formed as part of the Relief Church, which had broken away from the established church in the 1761. The Relief Church went on to become part of the United Presbyterian Church.
