Archaeology Notes

NO51NW 29 509 167.

Two urns were found in Market Street, St Andrews, one in 1867 and the other in 1872 but not more than 20 yards apart. They are now in St Andrews Museum. (As this article is almost entirely devoted to a description of a Bronze Age urnfield at St Andrews, it is implied that the above urns are also Bronze Age.)

D H Fleming 1907

Two cinerary urns described as "found in North Street in 1882" are in the Bell Pettigrew Museum, but there are none recorded as being from Market Street. As however the two are also described as having been found "within twenty yards of each other" it is possible that they are those referred to above. One is of overhanging rim type. (See Fife 9 SW 36).
