(NO 3422 3813) Parish Church of St Mary (NAT)

OS 6" map, (1971)

The parish church of Auchterhouse first mentioned in 1275, and dedicated to St Mary. The present church consists of nave, chancel and square west tower and is basically of 1630 build although it incorporates earlier, probably 15th century work, and was partly rebuilt in 1775. Remains of probably 15th century window tracery etc lie about the churchyard. The Lady Well is near the manse.

D MacGibbon and T Ross 1896-7; A J Warden 1880-5.

A plain, unpretentious structure which appears to be mainly 18th century rather than 17th century.

Visited by OS (J L D) 7 May 1958.
