(NO 2413 9419) Carn na Cuimhne (NR)

OS 6"map, Aberdeenshire, 2nd ed., (1903)

A cairn surmounted by a flag staff. The Carn na Cuimhne or Cairn of Remembrance, was formed, traditionally, by men mustered for war each placing a stone here. On the return of the force each man removed a stone, those remaining indicating the number of casualties.

New Statistical Account (NSA) 1845; Name Book 1868.

Situated on haugh land beside the River Dee, Carn na Cuimhne, is a cairn, c.11.Om diameter, c.1.7m maximum height, slightly eroded on its SE side by the river. Its top has been rebuilt, presumably to accommodate the flag staff, now gone.

Revised at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (R L) 20 October 1967.
