Alyth Market Cross was erected in 1670 by James, 2nd Earl of Airlie.

The Cross does not stand in its original position.

J W Small 1900

Alyth Market Cross, mounted on a two stepped octagonal base, stands on top of a retaining wall, at NO 2451 4883. Although somewhat weathered, it is as described and illustrated by Small. Below the cross is a small plaque:-

"Alyth Market Cross Erected in 1670 by James Earl of Airlie, in close proximity to this site".

The original position of the cross was not ascertained.
